CALGARY, August 4, 2009 – "Despite the current lull in real estate development, sustainability continues to be a key driver in markets across the Pacific Northwest and western Canada."
Tracy Bealing, Urban Planner with NORR Calgary, was quoted in this 5-page article which spotlights sustainability initiatives and green developments in the Pacific Northwest. Tracy’s contribution to the article focused on the trends in the Province of Alberta.
Unprecedented growth in the province has put pressure on both urban and rural landscapes, she adds, a fact recognized by politicians and the general public. "Several local, regional, and provincial planning initiatives are underway and aimed at smart growth to ensure [that] future development balances environmental factors with economic and social considerations,…Although many sustainable projects reached the height of their momentum during the "boom times," Bealing says, "We can expect this green approach to planning to remain at the forefront of local and regional planning in Alberta."
